Treatment Options
The type of treatment undertaken may vary and will be geared to the particular situation.
Success Rates:
Overall and if all goes according to plan the treatments used today have approximately the
same rate of success per cycle as natural conception (approx. 25%).
Under favourable conditions and if all treatment options are used 60% of all couples can
generally be helped.
- Hormone Treatment for Women
This involves the administration of hormones to regulate the cycle. - Intrauterine Insemination – IUI
A sample of prepared sperm is painlessly placed inside the uterus. This procedure may be offered either with or without hormone treatment. - Surgical Sperm Retrieval from the Testes ( =TESA / MESA)
For example in the case of blocked spermatic ducts or functional disorders of the testes that impair sperm production. - In Vitro Fertilisation – IVF
Egg cells that have been retrieved from the woman's body are fertilised in vitro by sperm that is incubated with the eggs. - Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
A single sperm is injected directly into the egg using a hollow needle. - Intra-Cytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)
Time consuming selection method used in cases where the male partner has poor quality sperm. - Embryo Freezing (Cryoconservation)
