Legal Information
On 1 July 1992 the "Reproductive Medicine Act (FmedG)" came into force. Together with the Reproductive Medicine Regulation (FMedV) governs forms of treatment and the handling of embryos:
- Marital Status
Fertility treatment is only available to married or cohabiting couples.
This status must be confirmed by means of a notarial deed provided by a notary public or a district court before fertility treatment is commenced. - Sperm Donations
Only a couple's own egg cell and sperm may be used for medically assisted reproduction.
This rules out both egg donations and surrogate motherhood.
Sperm donations may only be used for artificial insemination in the womb, but not for IVF treatment, and only if the sperm of the husband or partner is incapable of fertilising an egg. - IVF and ICSI
may only be performed by specially trained physicians at medical facilities licensed for this purpose. - Cryoconservation
Embryos, semen and egg cells may not be used for research purposes.
Sperm and egg cells may be stored until further notice or until the death of the person from whom the sperm was taken. Embryos may be stored for a period of up to ten years.
With regard to the legal framework, we assure you that we comply with all legal
requirements.
We treat your egg and sperm cells with the utmost care because we regard each fertilised egg
as an embryo and thus as human life.
You should also know that your personal data is subject to data protection laws.
All personal details are held in the strictest confidence.
By law anonymous data must be sent to a central IVF register for the purposes of quality
control and statistical evaluation.
