IVF – „In Vitro Fertilisation“ for your baby
IVF – In Vitro Fertilisation (Latin „fertilisation in glass“) – is one of a series of methods of fertilisation treatment. After hormonal stimulation mature ovarian follicles are punctured through the vagina. Retrieved egg cells are prepared for artificial fertilisation in our laboratory and then incubated with the male sperm. This method implies that sperms penetrate into the egg cells themselves – adequate to the natural insemination process (“in vivo”). Afterwards we test whether the fertilisation has taken place. If this is the case the egg cells are cultivated in a nutrient solution for 2 or 3, maximum 5 days and then implanted into the woman’s uterus in a painless procedure. A pregnancy which is no way different from a spontaneous pregnancy takes its start.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is the most successful method of fertility treatment. Many couples could be helped in the Fertility Centre “Döbling” to accomplish their desire for a child – even in cases when other methods had not lead to success.
